A lot of people get a political science major because they feel they can help serve their country better if they know the law. Most of those people would end up being politicians, but how exactly do they do it?
First thing to keep in mind is that this type of career is not about you, but the people. The best thing to do is to have enough charisma to be able to talk to a lot of people without fumbling words and speaking confidently.
Knowing the current issues and events within your community and country also helps with this. It would also be better to know the news around the world to better understand situations as they come. We have Internet nowadays so it should not be much of a challenge.
It should also be good to know your history and always learn from the past. Make sure that you have a firm understanding of trials, blunders, letdowns, and successes of your country’s past leaders to have a better perception on every single thing that is happening around you.
Lastly, dedication is the key for longevity and effectiveness. Simply put it this way, if you are not willing to validate your plans to reality, a career in politics is not a good one for you.
