Ross Global Academy Charter School, or simply RGACS, is a public Charter School that can be found in Tribeca in Lower Manhattan. Ross Global Academy started its operations in September of 2006 with around 160 students and it was developed in developed in partnership with the New York University’s Steinhardt School and Ross School in East Hampton, which pursues a spiral syllabus designed by Ralph Abraham and William Thompson. Ross Global Academy, at the start, was lined up to be housed in the same building as the school, in the Lower East Side, but then a controversial decision was eventually revised. The school is, at this time, located inside the New York City Department of Education building, which was formerly the Tweed Courthouse, at 52 Chambers Street. The school began its 2007-2008 school year at full enrollment on September 4, 2007, which marks the school’s first official school year with full registration of students. What makes this school different is the fact that they make sure that professional development programs for teachers and administrators are given, which should foster innovative pedagogy through an emphasis on team teaching, collaborative learning, globalization and learning, multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, strategies for English Language Learners and other strategies necessary to best educate. They also provide High-quality teaching and ground breaking knowledge with communication and media technologies. This is to see to it that students will turn to be sophisticated in both the use of technology as well as in comprehending technology’s function in the society.

Going back to Korean education, I guess it’s the only place on earth where the connotation of colleges and universities is entirely different. For them, a college means two years of studying and university means four years of schooling. Sometimes it’s better to say university student to someone attending college to play it safe. It can actually offend them if you would say, “ah you’re in college!” where in fact they would say that they are university students.

They always have ready explanation for that. Don’t get me wrong, Korean students are diligent and they really study hard especially if they are targeting for sky. SKY actually stands for the top three prestigious universities in their country, namely Seoul National University, Korea University and Yonsei University; the rests are just so so. These reputable universities are the homes to the future workers of Samsung, LG, and Hyundai etc. So if you want to enter a top notch company, you have to reach for the sky.
